Game Room 1/1/08

What a fun project! Kitchens and baths are great but when you get to do a room entirely devoted to entertainment where you can pull out all the stops it gets very exciting!

We agreed to take this project on the Saturday before New Years Day with the understanding that the project must be complete before the Super Bowl. By 2:30 pm. Friday afternoon we had a green tag in hand from the city for framing, electrical and plumbing rough in!

This was an upstairs game room in serious need of help. We unfortunately lost the before photographs due to a failed storage device but the after photos speak for themselves.

The goal on this one was to add a bar on one side of the room with an ice maker, sink, refrigerator and wine chiller.

Electrical was a challenge on this as the game room is situated over a living room downstairs and was a considerable distance from the service panel located in the garage.

After pre-wiring for the HDTV and surround sound system, adding a few can lights above the bar location and running home runs for the appliances our carpenters went to work adding

  • Window sills and trim
  • Baseboard
  • Crown molding
  • Full overlay of stain grade maple on the bar back and the television wall

After that came the custom maple cabinets with features such as…

·         A wine rack upper with a stemware rack underneath.

·         Component storage with glass front doors

With the carpet cut back to make room for the porcelain tile it was time to bring in all the “extras” such as…

  • Rope lighting above the crown molding
  • Two tone paint
  • Set the granite tops (This is my new favorite granite; the photos don’t do it justice).
  • Install the appliances
  • Install the flat screen TV.
  • Custom fabricated bevel edge mirrors
  • Solid brass foot rest

The end result was a unique and beautiful game room that we hope Ken and Kim and their family and friends will enjoy for years to come.
